Twitter is currently down for 30 minutes maintenance. Ok, they deserve benefit of the doubt that it may not be a scaling problem BUT they still face scaling issues everyday that needs to be resolved.Twitter management should optimize their code and servers.
As far as I know, Twitter is written with Ruby on Rails which is known for its scaling issues. I am not discouraging Ruby on Rails but, for twitter the twitter developers need a light-weight server-side language that goes easy on the server. PHP may be a solution. It scale easily.
Twitter has now become my main part of my socializing. 80% of my IM activity is now replaced with Twitter. Twitter should start opening premium memberships / donations to share the load. I know MANY people will pay for the quality API that twitter provides.
Good luck, Twitter.
Twitter also needs to think about monetization. They should start implementing ads in the tweet feeds or something.
I would rather see and ad here and there than experiencing daily twitter downtime.
Yeah. Googles ads might be perfect monetization program for them because they’re mostly text-based however, I rarely visit twitter’s main site.
Daily twitting users uses twitter’s powerful API. Will they be able to monetize the twitting programs?
